On June 17, 2016, Montreal’s Your Favorite Enemies will release Tokyo Sessions, a new interpretation of their previous album, Between Illness And Migration, which earned a 2015 JUNO nomination for Rock Album of the Year. The deluxe edition includes re-imagined version of all 12 tracks from the original album, along with radio edits of the singles “1-2-3 (One Step Away),” “A View From Within,” “I Just Want You To Know,” and “Where Did We Lose Each Other” as bonus tracks.
The impetus for the project followed an intimate show in Tokyo, where Your Favorite Enemies performed Between Illness And Migration in its entirety for the very first time, integrating new musical landscapes through different instrumentation, from analog keyboards to orchestral elements, accompanied by a two-hour cinematic projection.
Back at their home studio, a converted church in Drummondville, QC, the band revisited Between Illness And Migration from top to bottom, drawing from the emotional moment they experienced in Tokyo. In their words, it was closer to the scale of a theatrical play, rather than the usual monochromatic shades of a rock concert.
The result is a new and diverse mix of post-punk, shoegaze, nu-prog and psych rock blending with honest lyrical poetry and spoken word. Tokyo Sessions is now the vivid and definitive incarnation of Between Illness And Migration, an album that has been on an evolving journey since its conception.
