Anyone at all familiar with Toronto’s roots music scene will recognize the members of Thelonious Hank immediately: the one and only Ted Hawkins on vocals and drums, guitar maestro Nichol Robertson, Bob Taillefer on pedal steel, and upright bassist Kevin Walsh. Further slide guitar work was provided by Burke Carroll, with Denis Keldie chipping in on accordion and piano. Harmonica was supplied by true Nashville royalty, Charlie McCoy (Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash…)
On its 10 original tracks, Walk Between The Rain Drops covers a dizzying array of musical styles, from classic country, rockabilly, R&B and Roy Orbison-style balladry—basically anything within the range of the two legends who inspired the group’s name, Thelonious Monk and Hank Williams.
Thelonious Hank’s Walk Between The Raindrops is irrefutable proof of what results when great musicians get together for no other purpose than to have a good time. Like the work of Asleep At The Wheel and Hot Club Of Cowtown, the benefits to the listener are equally obvious. This is music that doesn’t trade on nostalgia; it’s music that can put a smile on your face and a spring in your step and remind you how great things are at this moment.
